This two-hour class is a quick primer so you can get out and enjoy flatwater kayaking. We begin with an introduction to the parts of a kayak, discuss clothing selection, then get on the water!

We'll cover launching and landing, basic propulsion and maneuvering strokes, and very basic bracing strokes to help prevent a capsize.

Quick-Start Your Kayak is designed for those who have taken no formal instruction, including those who have never kayaked before. Quick Start is for those who are looking to paddle recreationally in calm conditions on protected lakes, ponds, and flatwater rivers.

If you are looking to paddle in waves or on more open water like large lakes, ocean harbors, or open ocean — or if you want a comprehensive introductory class, including critical safety skills like rescues — take our Introduction to Kayaking instead. Quick-Start Your Kayak does not satisfy the pre-requisites for our Level 2 Kayak Trips.
