Canoe & Kayak Trailers
Charles River Canoe & Kayak is proud to offer the latest in canoe and kayak transportation — trailers by Yakima and Malone! Instead of lifting your boat(s) onto your car or SUV, now you can transport them at waist level. How easy is it? Look at the photo!
Or, if you don't want bars on your car, a trailer is the solution. Trailers are also more aerodynamic than top-of-car storage, saving on gas and reducing wind noise. Moreover, you're not limited to boats: the trailers include Yakima-compatible load bars to work with almost any Thule or Yakima rack accessories, so you can carry bikes, skis, storage boxes, and more!
Yakima Rack and Roll KD65 and KD78
Yakima offers the Rack-and-Roll in two trailer widths, 65" and 78". The wider trailer accommodates more or larger boats. Both are built entirely of lightweight aluminum, so it's light and you don't have to worry about rusting, and include Yakima load bars. The stylish design looks sharp behind even the most discerning driver's vehicle.
Each Rack-and-Roll can accommodate one boat up to 18 feet (centered on trailer) or multiple boats up to 16 feet in length. The optional Tongue Extender allows the trailer to accommodate a single boat up to 23 feet or multiple boats of 19 feet. The number and length of boats that can be accommodated on the Rack-and-Roll varies based on the length of the bars and the type of accessory mounts (e.g. Thule Hull-a-Port) used.
The Rack-and-Roll can be folded to flat in seconds, and can be pulled by almost any vehicle with a 1 7/8 inch ball trailer hitch — even a motorcycle! Visit the Yakima web site for detailed information on the trailer and component options.

The Downeaster's extra-long tongue is standard and accommodates a single boat up to 20-21 feet and multiple boats up to 18 feet in length. How Do I Register My Newly Purchased Trailer in Massachusetts?
You’ll need a signed and completed RMV1 form from your insurance agent, proof of ownership from the seller, and the applicable fees. Along with the completed RMV1 application, you must submit one of the following documents:
- A Certificate of Origin (new trailers only), or
- A Bill of Sale, if a non-titled trailer
An acceptable Bill of Sale for a trailer must list the following information:
- Name and address of buyer
- Name and address of seller
- Date of purchase
- Purchase price
- Identification information (VIN, make, model, and year)
If the total gross weight of a trailer - the combined weight of the trailer and its cargo - is 3,000 lbs. or less, no title is required. If the total gross weight of a trailer is 3,001 lbs. or more, a title is required. The gross weight of a trailer is determined by the manufacturer and will appear on the trailer's Certificate of Origin and on the trailer itself.
If you have further questions, visit the Massachusetts RMV web page here.
