Supervisor at Allston/Brighton
Responsibilities: Oversee the day-to-day operation of a canoe and kayak center. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to working with the Manager to oversee the dock staff and rental operation, working on the rental dock and as a cashier, preparing equipment for tours, assuring that rental equipment is operational and available, maintaining appearance of facility, and fostering the highest level of customer service for our diverse clientele. Must be able to work independently, as shifts will not always overlap with Manager.
Requirements: Strong customer service background. Experience in staff management and familiarity with computers. Previous employment in the boating industry highly desirable. Candidates should have a current drivers license, safe driving record, current CPR and basic First Aid, and be able to lift 50 pounds. Multilingual skills are desirable but not required. Full time positions; must be available on weekends.
Starting Pay: $13/hour + bonus
Desk Coordinator in Newton
Responsibilities: Coordinate the interior and outdoor operation of a canoe and kayak center. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, working with the Dock Supervisor to ensure that the rental operation, classes, tours, and trips are properly organized and prepped, registering customers for appropriate classes and trips, working as a cashier and processing payments, answering phone and e-mail, and adhering to the highest standards of customer service.
Requirements: Organizational skills. Strong customer service background. Experience in staff management and familiarity with computers. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Previous employment in the boating industry highly desirable. Full time position; must be available on weekends.
Starting Pay: $10/hour + bonus
Van Driver
Responsibilities: Transport people and trailered equipment between locations within the Greater Boston area. Load, unload, and move canoes, kayaks, and other paddling gear from vans and trailers. Assist customers with loading and launching boats. Provide exceptional customer service and answer general questions about paddling, company services, and locations.
Requirements: Candidates should have a current drivers license, clean driving record, be able to lift 50+ pounds and have strong customer service skills. This position is primarily weekend work with the potential for some weekday hours as needed. Previous employment in the boating industry and/or driving vehicles with trailers is highly desirable.
Starting Pay: $14/hour
Dock Hand in Kendall Square (Cambridge), Allston/Brighton, Newton/Auburndale, Natick, or Nahanton Park (Newton)
Responsibilities: Helping customers on the dock with canoes, kayaks, and gear, including the loading and unloading of boats off storage racks and boat trailers and showing clients basic paddling technique. Some positions will include indoor work such as using a cash register. Positions are available at all our locations.
Requirements: Applicants must be polite, responsible, friendly, hard-working, and able to lift 50 pounds. Full- and part-time positions are available April through October. Must be available on weekends.
Starting Pay: $8/hour

Responsibilities: Lead 2- to 3-hour kayak trips on the Charles River and Boston Harbor from our location in Kendall Square, Cambridge. Trips are designed for paddlers of all abilities looking to sightsee on the river. You will be a lively leader and a source of historical and cultural information about Boston and the Charles River so that clientele remain excited and interested in the tour (training will be provided). You will give basic paddling instruction to the group at the outset of the tour and as needed throughout. Additional work may include assisting with the rental operation; leading other tours, group events, and sea kayak trips; and teaching flatwater kayak classes and private lessons.
Requirements: You must be friendly, outgoing, dynamic, and engaging. You must have significant kayaking experience. You should be able to demonstrate and teach an efficient forward stroke and sweep/turning strokes. You must be able to perform a wide variety of reliable rescues and re-entries. First Aid and CPR certification are required. ACA or BCU Instructor certifications are desirable but not required.
Starting Pay: $12/hour + tips. Pay is commensurate with experience.
Sea Kayak Guide/Assistant Guide
Responsibilities: Lead kayak day trips along the Massachusetts coast with up to 10 clients accompanied by two guides. Trips travel by van from our Newton Boathouse and usually run 8am to 5pm on weekends. Trips for beginner, intermediate, and advanced paddlers are offered, and include a strong emphasis on skill work. Additional work may include leading private trips, barbeque kayak tours, and other group events, and teaching flatwater kayak classes and private lessons.
Requirements: Significant sea kayaking experience, including knowledge of navigation, tides and currents, and weather. Guides should be able to demonstrate and teach an efficient forward stroke, boat lean, and bracing. Guides must be able to perform a wide variety of reliable rescues and re-entries. A reliable roll is required and must be demonstrated for students during certain trips. Teaching experience is required. ACA or BCU Instructor certifications are desirable but not required. Wilderness First Aid certification is required. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Lead guides will have more guiding experience than assistant guides, and must have a current driver's license and safe driving record. Training is available.
Starting Pay: $14-16/hr for lead guides, $12/hr for assistant guides.
Kayak Instructor
Responsibilities: Teach introductory flatwater kayak classes with up to eight students on the Charles River in Newton or Kendall Square. Classes run for three two-hour sessions on weekday evenings or two three-hour sessions on weekend mornings or afternoons. Additional work may include teaching rolling clinics and private kayak lessons, and leading barbeque kayak tours.
Requirements: Significant sea kayaking or whitewater kayaking experience. Instructors should be able to demonstrate and teach an efficient forward stroke, boat lean, and bracing. A reliable roll must be demonstrated for students during class. Instructors should also have experience performing numerous types of rescues and re-entries. Teaching experience is required. ACA or BCU Instructor certifications are desirable but not required. First Aid certification is required. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Current drivers license and safe driving record are desirable but not required. Training is available.

Canoe Instructor
Responsibilities: Teach introductory flatwater canoe classes with up to twelve students on the Charles River in Newton. Classes run for three two-hour sessions on weekday evenings or two three-hour sessions on weekend mornings or afternoons. Additional or alternative work may include leading moonlight canoe tours.
Requirements: Significant flatwater or whitewater canoeing experience. Instructors should be able to demonstrate and teach an efficient J-stroke, the sweep and pry, draw strokes, and bracing. Instructors should also have experience performing rescues and re-entries. Teaching experience is required. ACA or BCU Instructor certifications are desirable but not required. First Aid certification is required. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Current drivers license and safe driving record are desirable but not required. Training is available.
Starting Pay: $12/hour
Stand-Up Paddleboarding Instructor
Responsibilities: Teach introductory and intermediate 1.5-hour stand-up paddleboard lessons for up to five students from our Newton/Auburndale, Natick, and Boston locations. The lessons typically run on weekends with occasional morning and evening sessions. Additional work may be available with private lessons and longer coastal SUP lessons.
Requirements: Significant flatwater or surf SUP experience is required. Instructors should be able to demonstrate and teach efficient paddle technique (forward, sweep, draws, bracing, torso rotation) as well as proper feet placement. Teaching experience and CPR/FA certifications are required. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Current drivers license and safe driving record are desirable but not required. Training is available.
