— Rob Bradlee's Toko Wax Recommendations —
Weston Ski Track Tuesday Night Race

Tuesday, February 5, 2008
Forecast Temperature at 7pm: 43–45°F
Snow Condition: wet granular/spring conditions

The forecast calls for very warm temps and rain showers all day, remaining warm into the evening. Conditions will be very wet. If you have a ski with a wet grind be sure to use it. Otherwise, add rills to your ski with the Toko Structurite AFTER you have done all hot-waxing (the hot iron takes the rills out).

  • Iron on LF Moly, cool, scrape, brush.
  • Iron on HF Moly and HF Yellow mixed 1:1. Cool, scrape, brush. Substitute HF Red for HF Moly if you don't have the latter.
  • Rub on Jetstream with Moly, rotocork or hand cork, brush with dedicated soft nylon polishing brush, polish with Thermopad.
  • Spray on HelX Warm, let dry, polish with included white polishing pad.

  • The HF Moly will harden the HF Yellow a bit and the Moly in it will help resist the copious dirt that accumulates in Weston’s snow.

Be sure to bring warm-up skis if you have them. In warm weather the dirt tends to stick quickly to the skis, so it’s best to avoid warming up on race skis.

    Forecast Temperature at 7pm: 35–37°F
Snow Condition: wet powdery snow that's starting to ice

The forecast calls for warm temps all day, remaining warm into the evening, with a chance of showers. Conditions will be wet. If you have a ski with a wet grind be sure to use it. Tuesday, January 15, 2008
    Forecast Temperature at 7pm: 26–28°F
    Snow Condition: frozen, transformed powder

Tonight's cold temps will freeze the snow we got today, but it came down pretty warm and wet so the cold temps and grooming will transform the powder.

  • Iron on LF Moly, cool, scrape, brush.
  • Iron on HF Red. Cool, scrape, brush.

  • I've gone back and forth on the Jetstream, and have decided that it won't do enough good. If you want, use it, but I'm not going to. I may eat my words at approximately 7:20pm Tuesday.

    Tuesday, January 8, 2008
    Forecast Temperature at 7pm: 43–47°F
Snow Condition: very wet granular snow that's starting to ice

Conditions will be very warm and wet. If you have a ski with a wet grind be sure to use it. Otherwise, add rills to your ski with the Toko Structurite AFTER you have done all hot-waxing (the hot iron takes the rills out).

  • Iron on LF Moly, cool, scrape, brush.

    Tuesday March 5th, 2007
Tomorrow looks very cold and windy at Weston. I suggest the wax combo that we've used almost the whole year:
LF Blue and LF Moly mixed 1:1
    HF Blue
    Jetstream with Moly

    Tuesday, February 27, 2007
    Forecast Temperature at 7pm: 29–31°F
Snow Condition: packed, fresh wet snow that's starting to freeze up
  • LF Moly, iron, cool, scrape, brush.
  • HF Red, iron, cool, scrape, brush.
  • Jetstream with Moly, rub-on, cork in, brush out, polish with thermo pad.

  • Some of you might be considering mixing Red and Yellow due to the temperatures getting above freezing for the day. My thought for the race was the temps should be dropping below freezing by race time and the snow will be icing up. Given the abrasive conditions (and of course assuming no serious amounts of new snow), then the Red should be quicker.

If it stays warm and we get wet new snow then you'd want to mix in Yellow. But, if you're going to be wrong, it's better to be wrong on the cold side rather than the warm side.

    Tuesday, February 13, 2007
    Forecast Temperature at 7pm: 18–20°F
Snow Condition: frozen granular manmade snow
  • First, iron on Toko LF Moly. Cool, Scrape, and brush.
  • Second, iron on HF Blue. Cool, Scrape and brush. Substitute LF Blue if you don't have HF Blue.
  • Third, rub on and cork in a layer of JetStream with Moly, brush, and polish.

  • You'll have to turn up your iron to get the blue to melt. Keep it moving! Two or three times down the ski from tip to tail is plenty of ironing. You'll need at least a horsehair brush and preferably a copper brush to get the blue off the ski. It's really hard.
You should have a dedicated cork, polishing brush, and thermo pad for use with the Jetstream.
